TEST DRIVE MEME 005

HAPPY HEARTS HOTEL

You wake up in a padded box. It rocks, gently, as though suspended in mid-air. You begin to stir, confusion or distress pushing you to try to sit up — and then the air begins to smell sweet, and you fall back asleep.

You wake up in a padded box. For a moment, you are beatifically calm. You don't know how you got here, or why, but that isn't really all that important. You don't need to know where you are. You're just... here. And here is a wonderful place to be.

But there is a niggling suspicion growing in the back of your mind. A suspicion that here is not somewhere you wanted to be. That it is not where you're supposed to be. You remember... chasing a white rabbit (or was it a person)? A mirror? Bright light, and green ivy crawling over your skin... Before you can worry too much, the box jolts, and then settles, and after a long moment the walls fall from around you to reveal —

A hotel lobby?

"Welcome to the Happy Hearts Hotel and Casino," says an attendant behind a desk. "We're so pleased you could join us. We have your room keys and Empathies here, please make an orderly line and we'll hand them out once we've confirmed identities. After that, feel free to explore the hotel! We highly recommend starting with the casino. Everyone's a winner here in Happy Hearts!"

Is this normal? It doesn't feel normal. And hey — you could swear you had shoes before!

I. INFESTATION

It starts with soft squeaks echoing in the hallways, the lobby, even Oysters' rooms. There's no accompanying scratching or the scurrying of feet that would usually signify an animal in the walls, only incessant squeaking that never seems to let up. Less than a day after it begins, the first squeaking creature makes its appearance. It is quickly followed by another, and another, and another, until one can't take more than a few steps without encountering one.

They range in size from no longer than an inch to almost a foot in length, and can be found everywhere from the pool area to the buffet to crawling beneath the blankets at night. Aside from their constant presence, they seem harmless. The creatures are soft and squishy, warm and dry to the touch, and don't seem to have any claws or even teeth. If they are treated with kindness, they may even become attached to certain Oysters, who will begin to find they can tell the creature apart from the others.

They can also be killed quite easily. They are resilient, and will bounce if dropped, but they have no defense against anything sharp and the smaller ones will not recover if stepped on.

The hotel staff view the little green creatures with varying levels of distaste, from mild irritation to shrieking at the sight of one.

"It always happens this time of year," one staff may say if asked. "The weather changes, they come in from the garden."

"They're hiding," another may state. "Who wouldn't? It's much safer in here."

Safer from what, you may ask?

The hotel staff give no answer to that.

After only a few days, the small creatures will begin to change. Those who have been shown kindness will become softer, fluffier. Prolonged contact with them will invoke feelings of happiness, will bring daydreams that feel real, though no one else can see them.

Those who have not been treated kindly will become more resilient, with spikes sharp enough to prick skin at the slightest touch. Stumbling over one of these will cause terrible hallucinations, waking nightmares that can only be dispelled with assistance from another.

II. THE QUEEN'S GARDEN

The creatures have been in the hotel over a week when a new archway appears in the hotel lobby.

It is nearly October, hotel staff will say. There is a wedding to prepare for, and the yearly harvest festival. The Queen does so love her Oysters, of course, that she is opening up her gardens for both.

The garden itself is expansive, spanning multiple acres. There is a winding path lined with neatly manicured rose bushes in all colors, another overgrown with ivy, another leading through trees with leaves of reds and golds. Groves of fruit trees are heavy with apples and pears. Elaborate water fountains and delicate streams flow between small ponds, each bordered by different types of water plants and filled with everything ranging from goldfish to koi. There is a chill in the air, and scattered throughout the gardens are stone fire pits, a stash of blankets, bags of marshmallows and cartons of fresh pressed apple cider.

It is the only place aside from the pool that Oysters will be able to see the sun instead of the eternal twilight outside of the hotel windows.

Night will fall here, too, and with it all the fire pits are lit. Lanterns line the paths, and some glow from the thick of the gardens themselves, though there are still shadowy places that one can retreat to if desiring privacy.

III. HEDGE MAZE

The garden is bordered on all sides by a massive wall of shrubbery — a hedge maze, hotel staff will say. They may even warn that those who go in without an escort will find themselves hopelessly lost.

There is nothing stopping Oysters from trying anyway, of course. The entrance to the hedge maze is difficult to find, but not impossible for those who are persistent. No matter what time of day it is in the garden, it will be night in the hedge maze, with no lanterns to guide the way. The entrance back to the garden will glow warm and bright for only a few moments after stepping inside, and will then disappear entirely.

It seems there is no way to go but forward.

The deeper into the maze, the darker it gets, as though even the moon and stars are growing dim. Oysters may catch sounds of soft breathing in the night, and may even observe that the hedge wall itself seems to sway as though something just beyond it — or in it — is moving. Those who enter the maze will find themselves wandering for what feels like hours, days. Does that turn look familiar? Have you been down this way before? Who can tell, when nothing about the maze ever seems to change.

Eventually, Oysters will find that they have been lead back to the garden, exhausted and hungry, though no time at all has passed for everyone else.

IV. WELCOME HOME

Maybe you just want to be alone — well, that's what you have your room key for! Oysters room on the second and third floors of the hotel, one to a room. You were assured your room would be exactly what you'd always wished for — and for some, that's right! It's exactly as you would have decorated it yourself. But for others, their rooms are totally wrong. A grizzled cowboy can't have a pink room! Hotel staff are firm, though: every room is exactly as its owner wants it to be. Search your feelings, Oyster. You know it to be true.

On each bed are the Oysters' personal effects, minus weapons, as well as a towel folded in the shape of a heart, and a single foil-wrapped chocolate. If eaten, the chocolate is delicious, and incites a feeling of tender warmth in Oysters — not lust, but a desire for closeness. Why spend time in your room, when you could go find a new friend in the casino?

Please direct any questions to the first comment on this page, and happy playing, Oysters!

He can see the hurt and betrayal on his face, that he has broken his trust. He waited for this long to tell him. The expression alone tells him everything. If Wangji could have known that Wei Wuxian has been sharing those types of kisses with the other and have his own experience on the hotel with his soultwin, he felt the same hurt, feeling a lot less of a man he should be, and he is empathizing with how he is feeling right now after he confesses to him.

Even if he gave him permission, there's a limit to his loyalty and faithfulness. It was a kiss of passion, and nothing more. His passion broke those boundaries and self-imposing rules, unspoken and unknown, and that he couldn't keep his emotions under self-restraint. The passion that wants what it wants and the truth of the matter is that both Wei Wuxians stirred the fire of his passion in their own way, and his passion doesn't diminish over one over the other.

"...Twice and I returned his feelings." He repeated. He waited and give Wei Wuxian some space to feel anything. Anger. Hate maybe, and he's no stranger to that emotion when Wei Wuxian as the Yiling Patriach hates him. Shock. Disbelief. He expected to have his heartbroken by him again and again. But it's the truth. He knew that he hurt him, and he wanted to give him a chance. A chance to rethink their relationship and the truth of their bond.

"You don't have to marry me if you're not ready or if you changed your mind." He said quietly, with a stoic expression that turns into a silent pain. "But my love for you don't diminish. But I can't marry you unless you know the truth. The truth is that I love you both very much, more so than my own life. My love for the both of you will stand forever and any word from you, and I will keep my silence forever."

He will be the know nothing head-shaker soon enough but this is an oddity he doesn't put up pretenses for. Huaisang's head tilts at the answers and he takes another bite of the s'more, chewing over his thoughts as he does the treat.

Finally, he speaks again, "Wei Wuxian?"

Wei Wuxian pulls his hands out of Lan Wangji's grasp and stands up. He needs just that little bit of space as he tries to work out his anger. Perhaps even a little more emotional because of the body he is currently in. His passions greatly flared because of the fox demon's personality. He moves away to the other side of the fire pit and turns his back on the other man. He feels tears sting the corners of his eyes because the more Lan Wangji speaks, the more it hurts.

Did it take him dying for the other man to realize what he has tried to explain to him before? Wei Wuxian knows the other man's feelings because they mirror his own. He has loved both lan Wangji's from the moment he realized what he felt was love. And he made sure they both knew it, and continued to know it every day. So he isn't mad that he feels those feelings for his soul twin. He expects him to because he knows that the other Lan Wangji loves him just as much. So those feelings aren't what are upsetting him. What bothers him most is now two things...the timing of those feelings and the fact he waited this long to tell him.

"Lan Zhan...I told you before that I love the other you just like I love you. So why would I be mad that you love the other me? It only makes sense."

He can feel jealous about it or want to prove to this one that his love is more then his soul twins, or make him know that no matter what he will always come back to him. But right now he feels hurt and he has to make sure that Lan Wangji understands why...because the misunderstandings they have had has only caused them great pain and he never wanted to have any more of those.

"I'm a little disappointed that you kissed him in that way when I've never done anything like that with the other you. I've kissed him on the cheek but we've always had a rule to never do anything that might upset our soul twins."

He gives a half turn so that he can see Lan Wangji from the corner of his eye, those cat like pupils narrowing even more in the light of the fire, his eyes practically glowing in the light from his emotions.

"I'm mad because of when you did it. I was only gone for three days...and when I returned and was fragile and broken in so many ways..you went off and did it again." His voice cracks with tears that threaten to fall. "Is that how it will always be? If I am suddenly gone you will just find the arms of the other me and forget all about me so quickly?"

"In the fl..." He stops himself because he's not really in his own flesh so does that saying really count? "Yeah you guessed it. I've never been very good a keeping up the Mo Xuanyu act for very long."

He waves it off and then picks the marshmallow back up. No reason to let the little treat go to waste. He sticks it into the fire so it can start to brown.

But he looks at Huaisang from the corner of his eye. The last time he encountered his old friend he got a few suspicions about him that he just doesn't feel comfortable with dredging up in this place. So instead he smiles a bit and pretends that he might be a little bit of a know nothing as well.

"Welcome to Wonderland."

It's a good thing he has spoken everything he needs to say because he has no more words to speak. He remains silent as he watches him turn his back on him, to leave him alone to cry. Each time he cries, it stings, and as much he wanted to rush toward him to comfort him, he knew what he did isn't okay, isn't fine. It's a betrayal of his trust.

He would have told him sooner, but he waited for him to get better. To be strong and be ready to receive it. Yet, he worried he revealed it in such a delicate state and a few days before their wedding. He risked for whatever outcome because he rather not hide anything from him, and tell him the truth, and waits on his decision.

"I'm sorry that I hurt you. It's something I don't want to do. You don't have to forgive me." A million negative thoughts of emotions rushed through his mind. That he was being compared to the other Lan Zhan again, the same way the other Wei Yings compared to him, and trying to figure out their bond and their love. He wanted to bite his lips until it bleeds, to punch his fists into trees to get hurt and bleed because his love for them is so strong that his life matters little.

But he has no energy to do so. He just sat, listened, and have him lashed out at him. He nearly grits his teeth when he learns he kissed the other on the cheek, though he expected something deeper. It doesn't matter, it's the same to him. "It's too late for that. The upset and hurt are already done. Your soul-twin, he already knew and he was hurt." As he has seen the jealousy and hurt from the other Wei Wuxian, and how much he has needs unmet and unspoken.

He sat still, frozen in his place, not sure if he could just hug him when he's the one who caused him pain and tears. "I did not forget about you. I never did. Not at all. You're not a replacement. I was grieving because no one can replace you. What if you're gone forever? If you die again and don't come back, I will have no choice but to fight my way out of this place, and I am capable of revenge. I will kill those who hurt you. I won't be the same man that you remember me if this place will take you away from me again and again. The next time if you die, I won't forgive them."

His heart aches in his chest. He loves him so much which is why it hurts so much. "Why did you wait so long to say anything? Am I that hard to talk to?" He laid his heart out on the table for Lan Wangji to do whatever he wanted with it. Always expressed his love in the loudest of ways. So why was it so hard to just tell him the truth?

He wants to believe those words. That Lan Wangji would fight for him and that he would never forgive the ones that hurt him. That he wouldn't just rush into the next person's arms and replace him to feel that void he leaves behind. But how can he trust it now that it has happened once?

A part of him is glad to know now. That the truth did come from this Lan Wangji and not from someone else. If he had found out such a thing from his soul twin or the other Lan Wangji...he doesn't know how he would have reacted. But to find out the truth so late and so close to their wedding just makes it harder to handle.

He turns away again, squeezing his eyes shut to keep the tears from escaping. His shoulders trembling ever so slightly from the effort of holding them back. Those nine tails droop lifelessly as if they were beaten. The ears flat against his head.

If his soul twin was so hurt then he wouldn't have accepted those kisses. But clearly he did otherwise Lan Wangji wouldn't be confessing to him now. And he knows his soul twin as well as he knows himself. He would never have turned down those affections. Has he also told his Lan Wangji about what happened? Or does the heavy weight of confession still sit on his shoulders?

"Do you not trust what I would have done if I had known?" Perhaps he believed that he would just run off into the other Lan Wangji's arms. But doesn't that also bring them back to a lack of trust in him? Is Wei Wuxian so untrustworthy?

Well. That - is not an answer, as to how much Huaisang remembers, but it gives him a little bit of an idea. He gives a small smile in return, sitting next to him and watching him prepare the marshmallow.

"The consistency is strange, and they're very sweet. But they are enjoyable, as a novelty."

Is he going to do this? To pretend like there is not this chasm between them that he feels constantly on the verge of tipping into? To be gentle, and quiet, and not push for the things he needs to know? He had promised Mingjue that he would help protect Huaisang if he showed up here, even though he isn't sure how much Huaisang ever needed - or wanted - his support.

In the end, it's not the idea of letting what they both know remain unspoken between them that makes his decision. It's the possibility, however small, that Huaisang is from an earlier time, when he isn't yet aware of the events that may unfold. He could not keep things from him anymore than he could with Mingjue.

"There are others here from our world, and some from what seems like alternate timelines. I have met people who have not yet experienced all the events I remember, people who have variations in the way things occurred, people who I have known to be dead." His fingers curl briefly into the fabric of his overcoat.

"If you remember as I do, then there are only a few things I need tell you, but if you do not-"

[personal profile] eternalgrief 2020-09-25 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then I'm sure I'll like them."

Huaisang finishes piercing the marshmallow and he holds it over the fire, his eyes on the fire for a bit of time before he looks at Xichen. The longer he's there, the more it's hard to keep up pretenses and he'd always been good at pretenses. But he had nothing left he needed to accomplish and it felt terrible hide himself with Xichen of all people. He exhales as he contemplates it, watching as the marshmallow starts to brown.

What a strange thing, not the people who could be there that should be dead --that's not new but that they aren't all from the same time? That is different.

The last thing that Xichen confirms that he needs to drop the mask and his smile fades, looking directly at him. "Is he dead?" It seems the easiest question to know if they are from the same time or not.

His eyes close, briefly, as he pulls in a breath and lets it out slowly - which is probably enough of an answer on its own, but he responds anyway.

"Yes."

Oddly enough, it settles something in him. He has been here long enough that reminders of that night no longer immediately send him back to experiencing it, and at least - at least he will not have to compose himself to tell the story for a third time. There are so many things he wants to ask him - how did he find out, how long had he known - but he thinks he understands why Huaisang did not tell him, and there are more important things than Lan Xichen's further attempts to pick apart everything he thought he knew about his life.

"Huaisang, I -" He cuts off, because there is no way to soften this, to broach the subject gently. "Mingjue is here, or a version of him. He looks a little different, and the events of his life do not quite match up - but it is still him."

Huaisang doesn't look away from the other and he feels like there's something he should say but the words don't come. He simply nods in acknowledgement and when he looks back at the marshmallow it'd just caught fire and he quietly goes "ah," and pulls it back, blowing on it. When Xichen wants to question him he'll do his best to give him answers but now doesn't seem the time for them to talk about everything that had happened.

He looks over again when he hears his name and he braces himself -- for what? He's not sure. What he finds the other saying is not what he had expected at all. It feels like a physical blow.

"Da ge is here? How..." But he then remembers what the other had said earlier but it's still, something he's not sure how to reconcile and then a feeling of hope. "He's really here?"

Huaisang continues to eat at the s'more he'd been given, small bites each time. Two can play at the know nothing game and Huaisang holds back his questions. He can figure out what he needs one way or another.

"Do I want to ask why you don't look like yourself?" he does ask, though, as he finishes up the s'more and gives the other an easy smile.

Wei Wuxian | The Untamed

[personal profile] sadflutenoises 2020-09-26 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I. Infestation
It feels like a bad hangover, coming back to himself after the past few weeks. The rush of memories, of his time here as a child and a teen, causing chaos, making a fool of himself, and all he can think is that it's a good thing his face is so thick, or he might actually feel a little embarrassed over it.

He's eager to shake it all off and put his energy elsewhere, and he decides a bit of wandering is in order, just to see if the arcade and daycare are still there, or if they've brought back the bar and spa and other amenities. Wei Wuxian doesn't get far though, before he runs into a handful of the new creatures, wandering around the hotel.

Wei Wuxian doesn't have the best track record with animals. He means well, of course, but he has a tendency to be, perhaps a little rough, as the rabbits back in Cloud Recesses well know. He's quick to pick one of them up, unable to help himself from bouncing it in his hands or looking it over, wondering if they're any good to eat.

"Just what are you, hm?"

II. Queen's Garden
Wei Wuxian honestly isn't sure if he should be alarmed or flattered, when he sees the Queen's garden, all lit with lanterns and covered in red and gold foliage. There's no other reason it would be so decorated, at least, none that come to mind. And the lanterns? It's not like they've been subtle in their planning, but he hadn't expected help and encouragement in their decor from their captors.

Then again, knowing what he does about the harvested teas, he's sure a wedding is just the sort of boisterous, emotional event they would encourage here. All the same, he'll take it. Seems a shame not to put it all to good use, and it's not as if he can help the way his heart speeds up at the thought of their upcoming wedding, or seeing Lan Zhan all dressed in red and gold.

Besides, it's nice to see the sun again. Seems such a little thing, but he hasn't seen it since the camping trip. Wei Wuxian is rather easy to find, just follow the sound of a flute and you'll see him, reclined on a low branch, feet swinging, as he watches the sky turn to dusk.

III. Hedge Maze
Wei Wuxian was supposed to be more careful.

He's said he'd try, at least. And really, he'd only meant to find the entrance and come back with Lan Zhan, but before he had a chance to even look around, the light vanished behind him, leaving him in darkness, without a way out. He spends a good half-hour just searching the way he'd come, but it's clear he's meant to go through the maze, not back.

At least he's cautious enough to move quietly, unsettled by the noises he hears the deeper he gets into the heart of the maze. He's no stranger to things that go bump in the night, but the creatures and people here are unlike any he's come across before, and after his past brushes with danger, he's not in any hurry to become another cautionary tale.

Wei Wuxian turns quickly, a sharp sound behind him, eyes adjusted now to the darkness, and scanning through it for the source.

"Who's there?"
sadflutenoises: (pic#14048949)

A

[personal profile] sadflutenoises 2020-09-26 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
It'd been a while since he'd come across his nephew, and it's with some relief that he sees he's all right. Though, the last few weeks had seemed catered to the youth, so he'd probably had a great time. Wei Wuxian had certainly made the most of it.

He leans in to poke at the creature, not the most adept with animals, but anything is better than a dog. And they look pretty harmless. He's not even sure if they're edible, looking more like walking vegetables than anything meaty.

"If they're hiding from something from outside, odds are good it's something nasty," he huffs. The last time he'd been outside, he'd wound up with a couple broken ribs, and Dabo had lost an arm. Things outside were dangerous, and that was putting it mildly. Still, it wasn't like the squirrels and rodents had come running in because of the monsters outside. So why had these?

"I wonder what they taste like."

"He is really here." He sounds sure, as he says it, because the differences he and Mingjue had identified when comparing their Sunshot Campaigns hadn't mattered at all when it came to his sworn brother's heart. He had still thought first of Huaisang, of his Nie sect, and he had still shown Lan Xichen more kindness than he deserved.

"It's him, Huaisang, from before what should have helped was twisted to make him worse." Lan Xichen glances away at that, not quite able to look at Huaisang. He stares into the fire instead. "I warned him."

[personal profile] eternalgrief 2020-09-26 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Huaisang takes that in. He wants to get up and go find his brother right then and there but he resists the temptation. Xichen is important as well. He can't imagine how that could be, his brother from before Meng Yao's tricks had started? He feels an ache in his chest at it. But he studies Xichen as the other looks away.

"It's not your fault, he tricked us all," Huaisang said. There had been a time when he had been frustrated that Xichen had never been able to see through it, to see the truth, that Huaisang had been alone in his realizations.

"This feels like a dream," he says after his expression a bit pinched as he looks away from Xichen. How many times had he dreamed about seeing Mingjue again? Whole and as the brother he had known and not what Meng Yao had turned him into.

Wei Wuxian wrinkles his nose and pouts his lips as he gets asked that. He always seems to be the one that has to try and explain the soul twin thing.

"Short version of the story is, I'm not the Wei Wuxian from your world. I'm from a timeline where I'm not so lucky as to get to end up back in my normal body."

In a way it is easier because he doesn't have to try and explain which one he is every time he meets someone..but also slightly more frustrating when people first arrive.

Huaisang is unperturbed by the pouting and he accepts the short version without any questions.

"The key is not to question anything because this place is capable of bringing whomever from whenever and wherever they want. Most of the people here are from your world. But there is a total of three of us from mine. Your Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are also here."

As well as his brother...but from this Wei Wuxian's timeline. He wonders just how different their memories might be. And he definitely isn't going to tell this one what happens to his brother in his timeline just in case things are vastly different.

"I see," Huaisang says and he turns his eyes to the bonfire, contemplating this information.

"How were you brought back in your world?"

[personal profile] scaredofdogs 2020-09-26 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Same way as yours..and I'm assuming you already know how that happened and for what reason." He loses interest in that marshmallow which by this point is now charred beyond recognition as he watches Huaisang from the corner of his eye still.

He doesn't exactly know if he was brought back the same exact way as his soul twin since they haven't ever discussed it and who really wants to talk about something like that? But he will assume that the path to resurrection wasn't too different just so he can try to feel his way through what Huaisang might know without outright accusing him of anything.

Huaisang doesn't immediately go to shaking his head and insisting he doesn't know.

"Do you know?" he asks instead of confirming or denying, not looking at the other still. He could go for some wine right about now. "You don't have any alcohol on you do you?"
scaredofdogs: (pic#14042158)

[personal profile] scaredofdogs 2020-09-26 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
That makes him bust out in a laugh. Because of course he has alcohol with him right then. There are cases of Emperor's Smile just sitting in his room that he gets to enjoy whenever he wants to. He reaches down next to him and hooks his finger around the tassel of the jar and lifts it up.

"I know a lot of things. And I know more then some people probably realize." I know what you did.

"What I don't know is if I should share Gusu's best wine."

[personal profile] eternalgrief 2020-09-26 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah," Huaisang laughs at the answer. "We always did have things in common."

His eyes go to the jar though and then to Wuxian's face with a tilt of his head and a pout forming. "Wei-xiong would you really be so mean to me?"

Lan Wangji could feel the depth of his words and feelings for him, cutting him deeply like a knife. Clearly, he wounded him, and perhaps, with him and his soultwin, just one of them is not enough. He felt his gaze downcast, a sudden heaviness of despondency weight in his chest. By his confession, he realized maybe he won't have his wedding after all...

"Wei Ying, I don't know. You're not that hard to talk to, and yet...I'm the one who has trouble speaking from the heart. When I feel its loud, I am silent." He said. "I waited this long because I was waiting on your recovery, so you'll be able to handle it." He explains.

At his explanation, he knew he was giving and kind, and yet why he feels so inadequate? "You are enough, and yet...I think both of our hearts wanted more. I want more of you, and yet sometimes..."

He drifted off in a pause, trying to find words. "Maybe it's not enough. And this place doesn't make me a trusting person as I used to be." It wasn't any of that notion. If anything, he confessed he's really insecure.

"I don't know Wei Ying. I just think...that I am not worthy of your love no matter what I do. You..."

Tears started to stream down from his golden eyes, tears that sting as he speaks with difficulty. "I just want you to look at me. When you give me my books, I am happy. But I wanted more. I want you to sit with me, read my poems, paint me a picture, write to me. Whatever you gave him, give it to me too, I don't know. I want everything."

Looking at him, "Do you think that's fair...?" And suddenly he felt guilty and selfish, and he wishes he hadn't brought this up. His intention is to don't keep secrets from him. While a measure of guilt left, he feels more emotionally exhausted than before. No, because the truth of the matter is, he doesn't want to give him up, and Lan Wangji himself is selfish.

Finally, his heart and mind are going around in circles until at last, he crumbles when Wei Ying started to cry. "Nevermind, forget what I said. I don't deserve you."

Quietly he gets up because both anger and pain are bubbling from the depths of him, and he goes to a nearby tree to vent his frustration and punches it in rapid session. It's going to hurt and make his knuckles bleed, but a million thoughts make everything inside of himself crumble into self-hatred over his pride and perfection that his clan taught him, and there's no word, rhyme, or reason to express the mixture of frustration over his relationships.

Jin Ling eyes Wei Wuxian when the other shows up and well...he hadn't seen him looking like this and that's...weird. This place just is the weird gift that keeps on giving weirdness. He doesn't comment on it because... he really does not want to know the story behind this. Whether it's that he doesn't care or otherwise it's hard to say. He pulls his marshmallow back away from the fire pit and blows on it before answering.

"It's fun roasting them."
